History of Firm

John G. Cooke & Associates Ltd. is an Engineering Consulting Firm specializing in Structural and Civil Engineering. The company was established in Ottawa in September 1992 and now has an operating staff of twelve (12), including five (5) professional engineers. Principals and staff have a strong legacy of experience and bring an in depth understanding and creativity to each project. This enables us to complete projects and designs which are innovative, efficient, of high technical quality, and on time and within budget. We are able to offer professional services in both official languages and have a special interest in heritage restoration.

Professional Liability

John G. Cooke & Associates Ltd. carries professional liability insurance with XL Insurance Company Ltd. in the amount of $2,000,000.00. A copy of the firm’s proof of Liability Insurance is available upon request.

The annual sales of the company are in the area of $1,250,000.00.

The number of staff currently employed is twelve, including seven engineers; four of whom are professional engineers registered in Ontario and one registered in both Ontario and Quebec. Special Facilities/Equipment

In preparation of engineering reports and contract documents, John G. Cooke and Associates Ltd. utilizes our full function computer CADD stations and our in-house plotting capabilities. Design is completed where required, with the assistance of the latest engineering design programming available. All work would be available to the client in digital format, as well as hard-copy, should the client so desire.

Professional Affiliation and Certification

John G. Cooke and Associates Ltd. have a Certificate of Authorization from the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario to practice Professional Engineering. The firm is also a member of the Consulting Engineers of Ontario. Registered in Ontario under Section 2.17 of the Building Code BCIN#28289.

John Cooke and Grazyna Materna are both registered Professional Engineers in the Province of Ontario and are designated Consulting Engineers. John Cooke is a Registered Specification Writer (RSW) and is President of Construction Specifications Canada (CSC). John Cooke is also a registered Professional Engineer in the Provinces of Alberta and New Brunswick. Additionally, he has obtained temporary licences for projects in New York State.

John D. Barton is a member of The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians & Technologists.
