In 1983 John Barton graduated with honours from Algonquin College, obtaining a Diploma in Architectural Technology. During 1989 he continued his studies by
completing an AutoCAD course at Algonquin College.
Upon graduation from Algonquin, John joined Garwood Stovicek Leclair Inc. in Ottawa. During the subsequent 7 years he advanced from Junior Draftsman to
Senior Project Draftsman. His duties included preparation and co-ordination of structural drawings for commercial and residential projects and administration
of the drafting team. In addition to site inspections other duties included detailing and production of shop drawings.
In November, 1989 John Barton joined Anrep Associates Limited as Senior Project Draftsman. He was involved with the production and co-ordination of structural
drawings for commercial, residential and institutional projects. His prime responsibilities were related to Computer Aided Drafting operations and management
of the drafting staff in each of the disciplines at Anrep.
In September 1992, he became a Partner and Vice President of the newly incorporated company John G. Cooke & Associates Ltd. He is the Chief Draftsman in
the firm. His responsibilities include management of the AutoCAD systems and production of drawings. John Barton directs projects and takes professional
responsibility on behalf of the firm. He has extensive experience with a wide range of project sizes and complexity and brings invaluable problem solving
techniques to each challenge he meets.
John is currently involved with several on-going projects, including Renovation and seismic upgrade of the West Block at Parliament Hill, Retro-fit of the
Bank of Montreal on Wellington, and several projects within the Government Conference Centre.
In addition to his technical contributions to the company, John is also involved in many of the administrative functions. He is the main liaison for corporate
banking, accounting, IT and the insurance requirements.
John is also the chief security officer for the firm, in charge of applying for and maintaining various security clearances for the company and staff, corresponding
with PWGSC, NCC and RCMP officials.
