New Construction Projects

Ottawa Convention Centre (2008-2010)

Our office was engaged by PCL and Priestly Demolition to engineer the shoring and partial demolition of the complex reinforced concrete structure at 3 levels of the existing building, to suit major alteration to the existing remaining structure and addition to the new Convention Centre. The major challenges included demolition of the 36m long, 5m high and 1m wide post tensioned concrete roof girder above the original main lobby area and also shoring and removal of the existing 56m long, 5m high steel roof trusses above the banquet hall.

Westin Hotel, Ottawa, Ontario (2006-2009)

Lobby & Restaurant Retro-fit: We were the lead structural engineering firm for the creation of a two storey space, which involved the partial demolition of the existing reinforced concrete second floor slab of the 24 storey hotel, construction of a new steel bridge over the existing enlarged floor opening, demolition of the existing exterior precast panels and providing a two storey curtain wall on the front of hotel. Additionally, a new 3 storey (37') fire place hung from existing 4th floor structure was constructed. Regular site reviews were conducted during construction. Throughout the construction, there was continuous hotel occupancy.

4th Floor Addition: We were the lead structural engineering firm on this project, which involved the creation of an 11,000 sq.ft. Conference Centre by construction of a one storey addition with structural steel framing on the existing reinforced concrete 3rd floor terrace slab. The project involved the raising of the existing 4th floor, floor infill of the existing skylight opening, major reinforcement of the existing reinforced concrete structure on 3rd floor, modification of the existing precast façade. Again, the work proceeded under continuous hotel occupancy.

Cedarview Plaza, Ottawa, Ontario (2008)

Our office provided the structural design for the new two storey steel structure, as well as the adjacent single storey timber structures. Routine site reviews and construction administration were also our responsibility.

Hazeldean Mall Expansion, Ottawa, Ontario (2005)

Major interior and exterior renovation of the existing one storey building complex, which involved major revision to the roof structure along corridors to allow installation of the skylights, reinforcement of existing columns and footing inside mall, removal of concrete block walls, existing floor etc. The renovation was completed with continuous mall occupancy. Structural design and regular construction site reviews were complete by our office.
