Our office was responsible for an intensive recording of the existing structural conditions, including on-site testing and investigative openings. Structural design of new floor plates within the existing building, as well as the structural design of a new multi-storey addition. We also reviewed the existing structure for new loading patterns on the building, due to the structural modifications within the four retrofit options.  The current, lateral resisting systems for the building are existing multi-wythe, unreinforced, load bearing brick masonry walls. The seismic upgrade included a hybrid model, using the existing brick walls as well as the addition of cast-in place concrete shearwalls around the new elevator and stairwall shafts. The building was analyzed using a finite element model and a report including detailed drawings was prepared.
